I was always drawn to health and performance — sports, training, lifting. I believed that discipline in the gym would naturally translate into mental clarity.
It doesn't.
In my late teens and early twenties, I dealt with anxiety and constant overthinking. I was stuck in my head — ruminating, questioning everything, struggling to stay present.
No one teaches you how to train your mind.
When I moved to California, I was introduced to meditation. At the time, I didn't buy into it. But I was willing to try anything.
During my first real session, I sat for 20 minutes — and when it ended, I felt something I hadn't felt in a long time: clarity, calm, and control.
That moment changed how I saw everything. If something that simple could shift your mental state, what else is out there that people aren't being taught?
Years later, I started training jiu-jitsu in my late 20s. Three months in, I entered my first tournament.
Match after match, I was caught in guillotines, triangles — constant pressure on my neck. I refused to tap. I fought through everything.
By the final match, my neck was cramping badly. I was ready to forfeit. I went to my bag looking for anything that could help. The only thing I had was a CBD balm — just CBD extract and beeswax.
